SCHOOL HOURS
Student will not be allowed in the building before 7:30 a.m.
School hours for students are 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Students should go directly to breakfast or to the gym at 7:30 a.m. or when they arrive. Students who finish breakfast before 8:00 a.m. will report to the gym. Breakfast will not be served to students (with the exception of late buses) who arrive after 7:45 a.m.

Morning Arrival
The front driveway is ONE WAY. Yellow strip areas are NO PARKING areas. The area directly in front of the school is the drop off zone for car riders. If parents need to park to come inside the building, please use the lined parking areas in the front parking lot. Drop off all car riders in this designated area only.
The buses will unload in the gym area behind the school. Students will report to the gym or to the cafeteria for breakfast. STATE LAW FORBIDS PASSING A SCHOOL BUS WHILE IT IS LOADING OR UNLOADING STUDENTS.

Afternoon Dismissal
Walkers are dismissed at 3:15 p.m. All walkers should leave the building and surrounding areas as quickly as possible, so they will not be in the path of traffic. Walkers should cross only at crosswalks where there is a crossing guard.
Car Riders are dismissed after walkers. ALL CAR RIDERS are to be picked p on the west side of the building, in the circle drive, off 20th Street. Parents will be issued a car rider sign, which must have the student's name and grade on it. It should be placed in the windshield to be seen by adults on car duty. Students will not be released at the car rider line to vehicles without a proper car rider sign. Parents should arrive before 3:15 p.m. to pick up car riders. The crossing guard will direct traffic for pick-up. All car riders need to be picked up before 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 p.m., parents must come to the Office and sign out their student.
Bus Riders will be dismissed after car riders. Students who ride buses will wait with their classroom teacher until their bus number is called.

Early Checkout
The school day lasts until 3:15 p.m. Please avoid early checkouts. When early dismissal is absolutely necessary, the parent must come to the office to document the time and reason for dismissal. Early dismissal will be excused on the same basis as the tardy policy. Checkout before 11:30 a.m. is counted as an absence for that day. FOR AN ENXCUSED EARLY DISMISSAL, CLASSROOM MAKE-UP WORK WILL NOT BE GIVEN.
STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN THE PERSONS WHOSE NAMES ARE LISTED ON THEIR CHECKOUT CARD.
All parents and/or legal guardians should fill out the Student Release Card at the beginning of the school year, and update the Release Card as necessary if there are changes in the persons who may checkout the student.

ATTENDANCE
research indicates that students who attend school on a regular basis are more likely to make satisfactory academic progress and less likely to become school dropouts than students who establish a poor attendance record. As a parent, your help is needed to see that your child is in school every day and on time. There are times of emergency when your child may be tardy. All absences and tardies will be classified as excused or unexcused based on the state's definition of this policy.

The state of Tennessee excuses only the following absences:
            Student illness,
            Illness in the family,
Death in the immediate family, and
Observance of a recognized religious holiday.
All other absences are unexcused.

Steps to follow when a student is absent:
    1. A parent or legal guardian should call the school before 10:00 a.m. to inform the school why the child is absent.
    2. A parent or legal guardian will write an excuse to the teacher. You should include the student's name, date(s) of absence, reason for the absence, and parent's or legal guardian's signature.
    3. Students not presenting a note will be charged with an unexcused absence.
    4. Each student is responsible for work missed during any absence.

When a child has been absent a total of 10 days, a doctor's note will be required as proof of illness. After unexcused absences, a letter may be sent and a phone contact or home visit made. When a student has unexcused absences, the attendance supervisor will be notified and appropriate measures may be taken in Campus Court.

Tardy Policy
A student is considered tardy after 8:15 a.m. Parents must sign-in students in the office. Please make an effort to have your child at school on time. You will be notified if your child is excessively tardy. All tardies are considered unexcused except for the following reason:
    Doctor/ Dentist appointment
