STUDENT BEHAVIOR
Students are expected to exercise age appropriate self-discipline and are expected to abide by all school rules and policies. The staff employs a variety of methods to encourage and reward appropriate behavior. We also have established procedures to deal with inappropriate behavior especially behavior that hinders the learning of others.

Examples of School Rules
    1. Follow directions first time given.
    2. Be honest and respect property.
    3. Walk orderly to all assigned areas.
    4. Stay in seat unless instructed otherwise.
Examples of Consequences

FOR SEVERE MISBEHAVIOR OR CONTINUATION OF LESS SEVERE BEHAVIORS, THE STUDENT WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE CLASS AND REFERRED TO THE OFFICE.

Examples of Severe Misbehaviors
    1. Inflicting physical harm to others
    2. Destroying property
    3. Refusal to obey any staff member

    5. Any behavior that is disruptive
    6. Stealing
Possible Consequences

    3. Develop a behavior contract
    4. IN or OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION
    5. Corporal Punishment
    6. Campus Court at Blythe-Bower School
    7. Family Court and/or Juvenile Court

Loss of Privileges
Excessive misbehavior could bring about a loss of certain privileges. Any student receiving an excessive number of referrals will automatically be excluded from any and all special activities ex. Field Trips).

Corporal Punishment
Cleveland City Schools Board of Education has a policy concerning corporal punishment. The Corporal Punishment Policy allows parents or guardians to send a letter each school year to the school's principal indicating that corporal punishment should not be used on their child or children. The school will honor this request but will use other means of discipline as deemed necessary.

Zero Tolerance Behaviors
In order to ensure a safe and secure learning environment free of drugs, violence, and dangerous weapons, any student who engages in the following behaviors will be subject to suspension for a period of not less than one calendar year. A Disciplinary Hearing Committee shall have the authority to modify this suspension requirement on a case-by-case basis.

Zero-Tolerance Acts:
    1. Students who bring or unlawfully possess a controlled substance, legend drug, or a dangerous weapon onto a school bus, onto school property, to any school event, or activity.
    2. Any student who, while on a school bus, on school property, or while attending any school event:
        a. unlawfully possesses a controlled substance or legend or dangerous weapon; or
        b. commits battery on a teacher or other employee of the school.

DISRUPTIVE ITEMS
Students are prohibited from bringing the following items to school because they may become disruptive: iPods, radios, CD players, head sets, video games, cameras, sports cards, other types of cards, magazines, skateboards, and/or any other novelty item that may be considered disruptive. Students who choose to bring disruptive items to school will have them collected by school staff. The return of these items to students is at the discretion of the school staff.

No animals may be brought to school unless requested by a teacher and without the permission of a building administrator. This policy is not only for disruption but for the safety of all.
