Blythe Bower Elementary
Public Engagement Plan
Goal Statement: Foster
positive and effective school and community relations.
Objective 1: Provide
a continuous flow of information about the school, curriculum, discipline
codes, school progorams, and methods of assessment.
Action Plan:
1.
A montly calendar will be sent home to all parents to provide information
of upcoming events and an overview of what is happening at Blythe Bower.
2. The Blythe Bower Bits 'O New will be sent weelky for internal
communications.
3.
Hold Open House and Grade Level Nights early inthe school year to inform
parents about school procedures, cuuriculum, and student work.
4.
Inform parents about importanat events and announcements through the Conncect
Ed Phone messages at least once a month
5. Maintain a school web page.
6. Provide a Students Parent Handbook for all families that explains
school rules, procedures, discipline code, and other pertinent information.
7.
Students will be provided with planning agendas to list homework assignments
and provide a way to communicate between parents and teachers.
8.
Teachers and staff will log all contact with school community.
9.
Teachers and sstaff will make home visits on an as needed basis.
10. Blythe-Bower will offer flexible meeting times for parents.
Objective 2:
Encourage families to support schools by volunteering for tutoring, clerical
duties, field trips, and school activities and events.
Action Plan:
1.
School will sponsor a PTO and hold meetings according to guidelines.
2.
The School Parent Coordinator will secure volunteers for tutoring, clerical
duties, reading to students, and other needs as requested by staff.
3.
A parnet Volunteer Policy will be developed and implemented.
4.
Volunteers will be required to sign in so that the school can monitor.
Objective 3:
Teachers provide opportunities for home activities that are coordinated
with the curriculum to enable parents to share in their child's learning.
Action Plan:
1.
A montly newsletter will be sent to parents called the "Home School
Connection" that provides learning activities for parents to do with
their children.
2.
Teachers will send books home periodically with students to read with
their parents.
3.
School Counselor will continue the "Book in a Bag Program".
4.
School will maintain a "Parent Center" at the school with materials,
books, adn computers.
Ojective 4:
Parents adn the community are provided with opportunities to share in
assessing school needs adn developing goals related to students' learning.
Action Plan:
1.
The Parent Advisory Board will serve to sdvise the principal and staff.
2.
Parents will serve on the school Improvement Teams for collaborative decision-making.
3.
A random sampling of parents will be asked to complete a drug and alcohol
survey.
4.
Parents will be involved in developing a School-Parent Compact.
Ojective 5:
Schools wok with community organizations to help provide opportunities
for service learning for students and to help provide essential services
such as physical and mental health care, food and clothing or whatever
is needed.
Action Plan:
1.
Counseling Department works ithe Hiwassee Mental Health Services and Department
of Human Services to meet the needs of Blythe bower studens.
2.
School will maintain a positive working relationship wht BEST parnters:
AmSouth and Maytag.
3.
School will maintain a positive working relationship with its faith-bases
parnters - Big Springs Baptist Church, East Cleveland Church of God, &
Big Springs Methodist Church.
4.
School will participate in the Creating Christmas Memories Program.
5.
School staff and students will participate on a volunteer basis in Creating
Christmas Memories and the Southern Heritage Food Drive.
6.
Parent Involvement Center serves as a resource to provide information
for parents.
Evalutaion:
Evaluation will be bases on tehcompletion of each activity in the Action
plan listed above. A survey will also be sdistributed to parents each
eyar to determine effectiveness of Community Engagement Programs.
