Language Arts

We have been reviewing poetry and uses of figurative language.  Check with your child to see if they can identify the different forms of figurative language we have discussed in this unit.  We used our poetry skills recently in a lesson where we graphed qualitative graphs about the poem.  Ask your student about this activity.

We are moving on to comma usage, persuasive devices, and subject verb agreement.  All of these things will be applied to various types of writing.  Continue to review at home what we are covering at school.

Science and Social Studies

We have just finished our Social Studies time for this nine weeks.  We began Science this past week and reviewed the planets using poetry on Valentine’s Day.  Look for your student’s Scientines to come home this week.  They did a great job using poetry to describe planets and their characteristics.

We are currently studying weather and will also cover energy during the second half of the nine weeks.

Math

We will continue TCAP review through starters and then continue review in class through games and activities as TCAP draws closer.  Continue to work with your student at home to reinforce what we are doing at school.  Thanks for all you do!!
