Chess Club
The CMS Chess Club meets each Monday after school from 2:30-3:30 in the dining hall. All members are responsible for having a ride immediately following the club meeting. Parents can pick up their child on the east side of the school by the dining hall.
Membership is open to all CMS students year round ($2.00).
If you do not know how to play or are just learning, this is the club for
you. This is a time each week that you can have fun with friends, or challenge
yourself to develop skills to be able to compete at higher levels of the game.
Athletes who are involved in fall sports are encouraged to join when their
season ends.
For experienced players, several tournaments are scheduled throughout the
year. The Bradley County Championship is held at CMS the first Saturday in
November. This tournament is open to all ages (K- adult). The Tennessee State
Scholastic Individual Tournaments are held in January and February. The TSS
Team Tournaments are in March. Cleveland Middle School has fielded successful
teams for the past eight years, including a sixth grade team for the past
three years. The Annual Cleveland Middle School Spring Tournament allows members
and non-members to compete for some nice trophies in an experienced section
and a novice section.
For more information, you can contact Mr. Sams at 479-9641 or at tsams@clevelandschools.org.
Parent volunteers are welcome and needed each year.
