Foundations: Math or English
The Foundations program at Cleveland Middle School is an early intervention program that focuses on helping students who struggle in basic reading, English, and math. Taken in place of related arts (such as art, band, and choir), the program is designed to give more individual one-on-one time between the students and the teacher. The program caters to smaller class sizes with intense learning.
Basic skills such as reading, grammar, and math are explained in detail and worked on until the student has mastered them at grade level. The Foundations program not only allows students added help with assignments from English or math classes, but also helps with science and social studies by teaching outlining and reading skills for those content areas. Along with the use of SuccessMaker other computer software, and standardized test practices, the Foundations program gives students the extra help they need without being pulled from their regular classes.
