  • Figure This! Math Challenges For Families
    A thought-provoking site for grades 5-8 that presents students and their families with math challenges to figure out. Each challenge has suggestions for getting started and provides hints, an answer, other related problems, extensions, interesting facts, and resources. Teachers could use these as extensions of their lessons in the classroom or they could have students access the site and work through the challenges.     This site gives a student an opportunity to play math games, ask questions, or get help on a homework problem. It is fun and interactive! The games include versions of bingo utilizing addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Another game is called Hidden Picture. Flashcards are also an option (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, fractions, and geometric shapes). These problems are great for second, third, and fourth grades! This is a teacher resource site that is very handy for making flashcards to help with basic skills. Worksheets for extra help can also be printed from this site.
  • AAA Math
    This is an excellent site with hundreds of pages of basic math skills. The pages include interactive practice, explanation of math topics, challenging games, and randomly created math problems for grades k-8.

  • Houghton Mifflin Activities (K-8)
    Houghton Mifflin has provided many different activities for all levels of K-8 math. They may be copied for teacher use as long as you use the copyright provided. This site is always being updated. Math topics include: geometry and shapes, graphing, computation, measurement, scale drawing and sorting.
  • King's List of On-line Math Activities
    An abundance of math resources from basic math through geometry. Appropriate for all math levels. Many of the applications require Shockwave.
  • Math for Elementary Teachers

  • Math Trivia Grades 7-9

  • Mancala
    This interactive site allows students to play the game Mancala. It is an excellent resource for teachers to address multicultural mathematics in their classroom. The only drawback is that it does not give any of the history of the game.
  • Math Advantage
    E-Lab is maintained by Harcourt Publishers and offers Math activities for grade levels K-8.
  • MathCats General Math – Crafts that relate to math, stories, and math facts.
  • Math for Morons Like Us
    This site has been designed to assist in the understanding of mathematical concepts ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus.
  • Math in Daily Life
    Students look at the language of numbers through common situations, such as playing games or cooking. Using decision-making skills students decide whether buying or leasing a new car is right for them. They can also predict how much money they can save for retirement by using an interest calculator, as well as several other examples. This site crosses all the strands of math at the middle school level.
  • MegaConverter
    Interactive conversion table that converts all kinds of measure: time, temperature, angles and degrees. It also converts fractions to decimals. This is a student activity.
  • Plane Math Activities
    Learn to choose the shortest route for a plane to fly. Build your own kite. There are nine activities to choose from in this site. The NCTM standards are provided in the teacher resources section of each different game.
  • Quia Mathematics
    Outstanding - This site has several different topics. Within each topic the student can choose to play 1 to 5 different activities: flashcard, matching, word search, concentration or simply solving the problem in a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" type game. Excellent for practice or review.
  • Rags to Riches
    An game involving solving algebra equations. The style of the game is a multiple choice format with hints available and dollar amounts awarded for correct answers. A nice interactive review for beginning algebra students.
  • The Abacus: The Art of Calculating with Beads
    This site includes a lot of information on the abacus. Students can learn the history of it and see photographs of some of them. They can learn how an abacus can add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate square and cube roots. There is also an Interactive Abacus Tutor. In addition, it includes a list of references specifically for teachers as well as related sites to explore.
  • The Maths File Game Show
    Outstanding -This site provides 12 games that cover several bench marks. All games are performed by students and presents 3 levels of difficulty with immediate answers. I rate this site a 5 star.
  • The National Math Trail
    Outstanding - This site includes descriptions of activities that have been performed by other classes that you can reproduce in your own classroom. The major focus of the project is to connect math to the real world. In a math trail activity, students go out into their communities, find examples of the math they have been learning, and create problems related to their discoveries. Students work in teams to document their work with photographs, drawings, narratives and maps to create trails that begin and end at their school. The trails wind through their community with stops at locations where they have found examples of mathematics. Each team creates a math trail book that can be shared with other students and parents. The site also provides a place for students to post their work.
  • Webmath
    This offers students assistance in math. Students can select the appropriate category and enter in their problem to solve it. Help categories include numbers and operations, measurement and geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Data Analysis and some problem solving. Mathszone
    Very interactive. Two students have been locked in a dungeon, you need to find the numbers in a sequence to unlock the code for the two to escape. There are several problem solving skills involved in this game.
  • Whole Number Algorithms and a Bit of Algebra
    This site will help students and teachers look at, and practice, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers from a geometric, "hands-on" perspective.
  • William's Home Page
    This site includes a collection of geometric student activities, such as making tessellations, using concepts of similarity, deducing angles, working with two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, window patterns from geometric shapes, geometric activities with string, multicultural mathematics, creating geometric figures from matches (toothpicks), games and puzzles.

    This site offers many word problems for students to work out. This is a great resource for teachers.
  • AAA Math
    Here is a collection of student interactive math activities, covering just about every math topic imaginable. Grade levels range from K-8, and also include "world levels". A great resource for both teachers and students.
  • Activities Index
    Outstanding - The activities in this site are designed for either group or individual exploration into concepts from middle school mathematics. The activities are Java applets and as such require a java-capable browser.
  • Adding 3 Integers
    This interactive game has students add three integers, both positive and negative. The students are timed, correct and incorrect scores, and students' percentages are recorded and displayed. If students answer incorrectly the correct response is immediately displayed. The game can be played four different ways to give the students variety.
  • Algebra.Help
    Site provides interactive quizzes over numerous algebra topics. A student can take a quiz and it is graded upon completion. If the student is stumped on a problem they can receive step-by-step solutions.
  • Alfy
    Elementary student site includes content in various areas. The website is a web protal for children to engage in online games, learn concepts and be emerged in a excellent graphical and highly interactive environment.
  • AmbleWeb
    This is a school web site. It contains a wonderful interactive section of math and literacy activities. Very colorful and well put together. Things like fractions, geometry, computation and much more.

    This site provides links to lessons and activities for math students and teachers.
  • BBC Schools
    This site provides excellent online lessons that students can work through, great interactive games that allow students to practice various math skills, math songs, movies, and good teacher resources. There are activities for ages 4 to 16+. Multiple benchmarks at the elementary, middle school, and high school level are covered. Click on the math or numeric links in each age category. An outstanding resource.
  • Bob's Place of Educational Links
    This is a really cool site for finding activities that students are able to hyperlink to. It also has sites that the teacher can use to link to other resources.
  • Breaking Away From the Math Book
    Outstanding - Breaking Away from the Math Book: Creative Projects for Grades K-8. Contains teacher instructions for engaging, hands-on, mathematics problems that go beyond the usual problems found in a text book. The activities contain very detailed instructions and provide good background information for the teacher. Excellent illustrations for each project are also included. The site is very easy to access and very organized.
  • Count On- Explorer
    This site is an excellent student resource for information, answering questions, and stretching understanding. Students can choose a variety of areas that help them gain information about various topics. Very student friendly, both in use and comprehension.
  • Count On - Math Magnets
    This site is very student friendly. It has online math magazines with information, games and the like. Students have a choice of six magazines based on age/ability level.

    An interactive tool to calculate distance between two points.

  • ALEKS
    This site provides a broad range of problems allowing students to practice basic math skills through intermediate algebra. Animated applets show the student how to calculate the answers after they use paper and pencil. A good variety of practice questions are provided with each skill. Your computer must be JAVA enabled.
  • Explore Math
    This site features lessons and multimedia activities for teachers to use to help present different concepts along with activities for students to use.
  • Famous Problems in the History of Mathematics
    This site includes a few of the problems that have been investigated by mathematicians throughout history. It is an excellent resource that provides biographical information about some of the mathematicians as well as an opportunity for students to work through some of the problems themselves.

    This site provides a wide selection of problems across the curriculum. The site is interactive, providing hints and solutions to the problems.

    The goals of Project Interactive are the creation, collection, evaluation, and dissemination of interactive java-based courseware for exploration in science and mathematics. At this interactive site students can work with tessellations (where the user generates a polygon that will repeat without overlapping across a plane. Starting from a rectangle, triangle or hexagon, the user bends the lines of the polygon, creating a new polygon. The user can choose several different colors to enhance the pattern, and can observe the different effects that colors have on tessellations), histograms (an activity that allows the user to view and make their own histograms), fraction sorter (an excellent way to learn about what fractions are and practice with them in order to help you understand the correlation between their representation as numerals and their value on the number line), function flyer (an activity that allows the user to explore the effect of changing constants in most types of functions including: linear, quadratic, exponential, trigonometric.
