Band
Band is a full year course for 6th grade. During the first nine weeks of the 7th and 8th grade year the students take a technology class and return to band at the beginning of the 2nd nine weeks. Band is an instrumental class that teaches the fundamentals of reading music through playing an instrument.
The instruments taught are
1) Brass: Trumpet*, Trombone, Baritone and Tuba
2) Woodwinds: Flute and Clarinet*
3) Percussion: Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Xylophone, Bells, Timpani (limited to
twelve 6th graders).
* Other instruments are available with the following prerequisites:
French Horn - must play trumpet for one semester and may switch during the second
half of the 6th grade year;
Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, Oboe and Bassoon - must play
clarinet for one semester and may switch during the second half of the 6th grade
year.
