What is it? The
Extended School Program (ESP),
provided by your school system, provides a safe and
fun alternative to staying home alone.
With ESP, your child will benefit from social, physical, and educational development activities. The program includes crafts, sports, games, art, and music education, field trips, foreign language, homework time, enrichment activities and more.
Plus, this quality program is operated by the trained staff of the school system you've come to trust for your child's educational development. You'll take comfort that your child is spending quality time when you participate in ESP!
Who can attend?
ESP is available to any city or county resident enrolled in grades one through six. Kindergarten students may participate during the schools' holiday schedule
Enrollment is limited to maintain a small ratio of children to adults. You may enroll your child at any time during the year as long as space is available. Priority is given to those needing full week care, but a child may be enrolled for part-time care also (2-3 days a week). children rising into first grade may also attend the preceding summer.
ESP and C.L.C. (Community Learning Centers) Locations and Schedules
Currently, ESP is in operation at five school locations. These sites meet the requirements and are approved as a child care program as certified by the Tennessee Department of Education.

ESP is closed on Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. ESP will not operate the week before school begins each fall so that final preparations can be made to the buildings prior to the beginning of school or on days when the school system closes for inclement weather (i.e. snow days). |
Safety First
That sense of comfort you have with ESP also extends into our pick-up service. Children must be personally checked out from the ESP staff in the afternoons by means of a sign-out sheet. Children are not allowed to meet those authorized for pick-up outside. You must authorize anyone who comes to pick up your child. An ID may be required if the person calling for your child is not the usual one. When the program is operating on a full-day basis, children must be escorted into the building and signed in to an ESP staff member.

Parental Involvement
Families are our concern at ESP. We provide information to you about program activities through each site's newsletter and postings at the sign-in/sign-out area. A Parent Advisory Group made up of representatives from each ESP site will meet on a regular basis to offer suggestions for program improvement.
