Only 18 schools (elementary plus middle schools) out of 1,300 schools in the state received the award. It is given due to the progress shown in Student Gains over a three (3) year period. Recipient again of the The Department of Education Reading First Grant for the next three years (2006-2008). Use the SuccessMaker Program within two labs and one computer lab in our school to improve the math, reading, and language scores of our students. Held a "Back to School Celebration and Registration" for our parents and students to provide a more convenient time for parents to come to register. Westwood Baptist Church supplied food and school supplies for the entire student body. Third year piloting the First Standards Based Report Card for the school system (with permission of School Board). Implemented Home Visits to specific groups during the summer through Extended contracts with 3 Staff Members. Sponsored an Emergency Shelter Drive, headed by the 5th Grade, to assist the less fortunate. Blythe-Bower was listed in 2007 as being "The Kindest School in Tennessee" with more acts of kindness performed and was ranked third in the U.S. Worked with Lee University and CSCC to bring in MAT Students (Masters in Education students), student teachers, student observers, and students to serve as "Big Pal Mentors" to our students. Five (5) teachers received mini-grants from the Bradley Cleveland Public Education Foundation. Five (5) teachers received an Allied Arts Grant awarded in November, 2006 to bring in Visiting Artist to our students. Held a "We Remember Assembly" to honor those who lost their lives in the 911 event of 2001: the 5th year anniversary. Hosted a Veterans’ Day Program. This enabled us to meet AYP removing our school from the targeted list. Received Straight A's in both Achievement and Value Added Test Scores on the Tennessee State Report Card. Participated in several charitable activities such as St. Jude Math-a-thon, Food Lion Penny Drive, and the Indian Ministries Toy Drive. Our "Best Partners," First National Bank, Hardees andO'Charley's, continue to invest much time and resources into our school and its programs. First National Bank spent over $1,000 last year on t-shirts for all of our "students of the month." O'Charley's once again invited all of our students of the month to a complimentary lunch. They served over 180 students at O'Charley's restaurant. Using technology in the classroom to teach remains a focus for our school and staff. Thanks to the Technology Dept. of Cleveland City schools we now have access to SuccessMaker on an unlimited site license basis.

The PTO purchased a Climbing Wall for our physical education department. The PTO purchased four ActivBoards for the school. A PreK classroom was opened at Stuart. A Book Fair sponsored by the PTO took place in February. The PTO paid the major portion of a new phone system for Stuart School. Implemented the SuccessMaker program in grades third through fifth. Every kindergarten class celebrated Grandparent's Day. Stuart teachers were the recipients of four Bradley Cleveland Public Education Foundation Grants. Students at Stuart School completed a service project with a food drive for United Way. The PTO raised over $16,000 at the Fall Festival. The PTO purchased stage curtains for the auditorium. The PTO raised over $15,000 in a Fall Festival. The PTO built a nice pavilion for the students at Yates, as well as for community use. Three teachers were recipients of grants given by the Cleveland/Bradley Public Education Foundation. Susan Whitlock, a kindergarten teacher, was the winner of the Walmart Teacher of the Year Award. Continued to implement small group guided reading and started small group math. Hosted visitors from several school districts looking at our reading program. Many events were celebrated honoring Grandparents Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day and other special days. Partner: First Tennessee Bank Westwood Baptist Church Accreditation: Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) - 1992 Enrollment (2006-2007): 1067 Enrollment (2007-2008): 1075 School Highlights Technology Student Association - Regional Conference, 2007 - 4 first place winners; 3 second place winners; 3 third place winners. Technology Student Association State Conference, 2007- 1 first place winner; 2 second place winners; 2 third place winners. The Robotics Club is entering 2 teams into the FIRST LEGO League competition at Tennessee Tech this year. In 2007, our team received a 2nd place prize. Fifty-nine teams will be competing in the League this year. The Robotics Club also competed at Southern Adventist University. The Club won 1st place for Presentation and 2nd place for Robot Design and Programming. CMS drama students presented Aladdin Jr. to several elementary schools and 4 nights of a sold out dinner theater. The CMS Musical Team was awarded the Tennessee Association of Middle Schools 2007 Team Teaching Award (Eastern Tennessee Division) in June 2007. The members of the team are Caleb Bolanos, Rodney Broadnax, Sandra Farlow, Leneda Laing, Kelly Owens, and Rodney Williams. They also shared their team approach at a session at the National Middle School Association that was held in November 2007 in Houston, Texas. The CMS Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has had 2 fundraisers to support the Alzheimers' patients of Bradley Healthcare & Rehab. Green bracelets were sold to raise money for a garden area for them to enjoy. Over $2500 was raised to benefit Bradley Healthcare and Rehab. The 2nd fundraiser was a Rock-A-Thon on Fri., Oct. 19. Over $1100 was collected in pledges and each FCA member saw "Facing the Gaints" while rocking in rocking chairs. The CMS Dance Team was very successful in the 2006- 2007 season. They took first place in jr. high hiphop in Dalton at the Southeastern Cheerleading Competition. They also placed first in jr. high jazz in Nashville, TN. At the AmeriDance competition, the Smoky Mt. Classic in Gatlinburg, TN, and in Asheville, NC, at the National Cheer Stars Competition. The team is the current TSSAA state champions in both jr. high jazz and jr. high hiphop. 7th grade football team was undefeated this year with a 7-0 record. The 8th grade football team played McCallie in October for the TVAC Championship. CMS 8th grade Volleyball team placed first in Conference play and in the TVAC Tournament. Last year the CMS swim teams continued to improve. Although the overall record was 5-5 in dual meets, they continued to challenge themselves by swimming against teams from Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta and Chattanooga regions. The boy’s team set 3 new team records, while the girls team set an amazing 14 out of 15 team records. The girl’s team also met a Meet record at the Excel Invitational in Nashville. Future Community Career Leadership Association (FCCLA) service projects included sponsoring a car wash with TSA. The students raised $300.00 at a car wash and contributed the amount to the CMS Make A Difference Campaign. CMS students and families donated over 2000 items to the Ronald McDonald House during the Make A Difference Campaign for 2007-2008. Ronald McDonald House said it was the largest one time donation they had ever received. Tanya Wriston (6 Aqua-Language Arts) was named Teacher of the Month (October) by radio station Lite Mix 104. Eighth grade students participated in the We the People Showcase held at MTSU in Jan. 2007. All teams were ranked superior or outstanding. These are the highest scores possible. Teachers in 6th-8th grades were trained in Project Citizen. Sixth and eighth grade teams entered the Project Citizen competition in Nashville in May 2007. All teams scored outstanding or better. Ms. Lora Adcock-Jenkins' team received national honors. Barbara Ector (8 Red-Social Studies) received National Civic Educator of the Year and System Level Teacher of the Year for grades 5-8. The 8 Red teachers have been invited to present at the National Project Citizen Conference in fall of 2008. This will be held in Washington D.C. Several students from CMS competed in the State Championship Cross Country Meet in Knoxville on Oct. 6th. CMS 8th grade baseball team won the TVAC Championship in the spring of 2007. Leneda Laing (CMS Math Coordinator) was honored with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics. Mrs. Laing received a trip to Washington D.C. to participate in the awards ceremony. Casey Price (7-Red-Social Studies) was voted Chattanooga Times Free Press Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year. Joel Barnes and Cecily Williams received a mini grant from the Bradley/Cleveland Education Foundation for $1,000. They also received a grant from Walmart for$1,000. Grace Dyrek and Drama Team also received mini grants for the Fall of 2007. The CMS Winterguard will begin its fourth year of competition during the spring athletic season. The 2006- 2007 guard season was a very successful one. The CMSWinterguard was invited to join a brand new competition circuit, based in Atlanta, and competed in 5 competitions, including a finals competition, placing in the top three each time. The CMS Winterguard has drawn between 20 and 30 members each year since its inception. Many of its members have continued to participate in flag activities at Cleveland High School after leaving CMS which has opened the door for great travel opportunities.

Accreditation: Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) - 1977 Enrollment (2006-2007): 1246 Enrollment (2007-2008): 1327 School Highlights The CHS Class of 2007 was awarded over $390,000 in scholarship money for their freshman year of college from the Tennessee Hope Scholarship Lottery. They were awarded over 3.2 million dollars in total scholarships! Thirty-six seniors are graduating in the highest distinction honor group with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and ten or more honor classes. Twenty-five more students are graduating in the honor group with a 3.5 or higher grade point average and nine or less honor classes for a total of sixty-one honor graduates. The CHS Choirs, Silhouettes, Renaissance, Ebony & Ivory, and Gospel Choir, all received first place in their competition in Florida with Renaissance receiving the "Sweepstakes" or Overall winner with the highest score of all groups. The Choir Department collected tabs for tots and donated over 150 gallons to help the Ronald McDonald House in Chattanooga. At Chairies Jubilee last year, the Rock 'n' Roll Chair painted by CHS art student Sarah Coe, was auctioned for $500. The Boys Golf Team came in 3rd place in the District Tournament.
