Learn how to use this web-based digital video-learning resource from Discovery Education, scientifically proven to increase student achievement. You will find over 4,000 videos (40,000 clips) that are correlated to state and provincial education standards. This resource is subscription-based, so participants should check with their school system to see if it is available in their system before registering to attend. Cleveland City Schools subscribes to this service for classroom use, but teachers must first participate in this or another scheduled training before access is given.

Participants will learn the basics of Microsoft Excel, as well as how to use excel in the classroom. A spreadsheet is used to collect, manipulate, organize, and analyze data.  Examples: equipment lists, classroom surveys/graphs, lesson plans/objectives, etc.

This basic course is designed for classroom teachers who are true NOVICES or have limited knowledge of Microsoft Word. In addition to the basics, you will learn editing techniques and inserting clip art, headers, footers, and bulleted lists, as well as other features that will enhance your documents.  If you are a Word user already, you may explore how you can implement Microsoft Word into curriculum-related classroom activities.  Participants will be eligible for two door prizes.

Not sure how to set up a computer and turn it on? This hands-on course is designed to provide an introduction to the personal computer and Microsoft Windows XP. We will cover the components of a Personal Computer (“PC”) and those wonderful toys that make your computer more fun (printers, scanners, digital camera, etc.).  Topics covered include: ways in which the computer can increase productivity at home and school; hardware and software terminology, how to use a mouse to control your computer, Windows Online Help, customizing the Windows environment and file management. We will complete this course getting a basic understanding of applications such as Word (create documents), Groupwise (Email), and Internet Explorer (Browse the Internet).

Athena Davis and Julie Mitchell, TN Holocaust Commission Teacher Fellows, will share with you the basics for teaching a unit on the Holocaust in your classroom. They

 will provide Internet resources, topics, activities, and other good sources. This class will also address life applications of a study of the Holocaust with special attention on tolerance and student responsibilities as members of our society. This class is best suited for history and English teachers wishing to begin a study of the Holocaust, though it is also appropriate for other subject areas.

Carol Gregory and Vickie Cline have been developing flip charts correlating with the newly-adopted Scott Foresman reading series. This is your opportunity to
preview, have access to, and give input for modifications/improvements to these classroom resources. Carol and Vickie would love to get suggestions from you for other flip charts, so this will also be a good time to share ActivBoard ideas with others. Even though the morning is scheduled for K-2 teachers and the afternoon for 3-5 teachers, you may register for both if you wish.
