Mrs. Richelle Shelton
Mrs. Richelle Shelton is the principal of Stuart Elementary. She has served the families of Cleveland for the past 23 years. She began her educational career as a kindergarten and first grade teacher at Yates Primary for 15 years, before moving into the position as Instructional Facilitator. Her background also includes curriculum/technology coordinator at Cleveland Middle School and assistant principal at Mayfield Elementary. Mrs. Shelton’s vast experience from primary to middle school levels gives her a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities of elementary students as they progress toward secondary school.
Mrs. Shelton and her husband moved to Cleveland in the mid-90's. She has two sons, one is a Digital Media instructor and the other a college nursing student. Having been a parent of students in Cleveland City Schools, she knows first-hand the needs of children in today’s society. It is her intention to not only provide Stuart’s children with a safe environment to explore and learn, but also equip them with the tools needed to function in their future lives. As a former technology coordinator, she understands the importance of training students for the fast-changing job market. She knows many of the jobs, in which the students will work, have not yet been invented. Therefore, it is her responsibility to guide the school in producing children who are problem solvers and can be self-directed in their learning. Mrs. Shelton also recognizes the need for teaching students to build strong relationships among their peers and with those in their community. Her educational philosophy can be summed up by one of her favorite quotes, “They don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
