Melissa Bishop named Assistant Principal for Yates Primary

Cleveland City Schools and Yates Primary are pleased to announce Melissa Bishop as the next Assistant Principal of Yates Primary as Zach Riggins moves into a full-time Assistant Principal role at Ross Elementary. Melissa Bishop has worked within Cleveland City Schools for 20 years, making her a well-respected figure within the district. 

Principal Kerry O'Connor states, “We are excited to welcome Melissa Bishop as the Assistant Principal of Yates Primary. Mrs. Bishop brings a wealth of knowledge about primary education and will be an invaluable resource to our Yates community. We are confident that Mrs. Bishop will contribute significantly to our school community and help foster a nurturing and supportive learning environment for all our students." 

Since 2010, Melissa has served as an Instructional Specialist, where she has successfully coordinated K-12 instructional and RTI facilitators, overseeing the district's K-12 RTI program. Her expertise and leadership have contributed significantly to the success of the district's instructional initiatives.

Before becoming an Instructional Specialist, Melissa served as an Instructional Facilitator and First-Grade Academy Teacher. Her journey in education began in Hamblen County Schools, where she gained invaluable experience as a dedicated teacher. 

Melissa Bishop holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she excelled academically. She later returned to her alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, to pursue her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, Melissa obtained a degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.
