Arts in Education Grant

Four Candy's Creek Cherokee educators have written and received grants from Arts in Education and Business Council. Arts In Education (AIE) provides funds for a variety of quality arts projects for K-12 students in Cleveland City and Bradley County School Systems and private schools that are members of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce.

Lesley Avery wrote a grant to purchase a theater production kit for Willy Wonka Kids. Our students will have the opportunity to audition for roles in the musical as well as sign up to assist with production. Students will learn how to work together while being responsible for individual work, participating as team players, building self-confidence, and experiencing stage theater. Students will perform the musical for our student body and will have two public performances in the spring.

"Catching a Dream" is a grant written by Morgan Judd, Megan Martin, and Brittany Strother. The focus of their activity is learning about and celebrating Native American history and culture. The activities will deepen students' understanding and appreciation for various Native American cultures through an artistic medium. Students will be designing and making dream catchers and writing responses detailing the ways that various Native American tribes used them as part of their traditions.

We are very thankful for the support and opportunities provided by the Arts in Education grants.
