At its annual awards ceremony, the Tennessee Department of Education proudly awarded Stuart Elementary School with STEM Designation and Mayfield Elementary School with STEAM Designation! These awards recognize their excellence in delivering high-quality, integrated STEM and STEAM education.  By earning this distinction, Stuart and Mayfield serve as models for others across the state, reflecting each schoolโ€™s dedication to creating a comprehensive, student-centered learning environment that emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world application.  "We are so proud of Stuart Elementaryโ€™s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and inquiry," said Kim Bradford, Principal of Stuart Elementary. "This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff and students to creating meaningful, real-world learning experiences every day."  Stuart Elementary integrates STEM through school-wide project-based learning, weekly STEM labs, and community partnerships that provide students with hands-on, authentic learning. Technology, engineering, and math are embedded across all grade levels to strengthen critical thinking and collaboration skills.  "At Mayfield Elementary, we believe that every student is a problem-solver and innovator," said Dr. Jessica Bigham, Principal of Mayfield Elementary. "This designation is a testament to our incredible educators who work tirelessly to bring STEAM to life in our classrooms."  Mayfield Elementary offers cross-curricular STEAM initiatives, including robotics programs, inquiry-based science units, and partnerships with local organizations to enhance studentsโ€™ exposure to real-world STEAM careers and applications. Four Cleveland City Schools Named Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts National Showcase Schools Cleveland City Schools is proud to announce that four of its elementary schools - Arnold Memorial Elementary, George R. Stuart Elementary, Mayfield Elementary, and Candyโ€™s Creek Cherokee Elementary - have been named 2024-2025 Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts National Showcase Schools. The Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts National Showcase Schools award recognizes schools across the country that demonstrate exceptional commitment to building a positive school culture through relational and emotional safety. Schools are selected based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes measurable outcomes in academic performance, attendance, and discipline, as well as the schoolโ€™s implementation of the Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts framework. โ€œThis is an incredible honor that reflects the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff, students, and families,โ€ said Dr. Jeff Elliott, Director of Schools. โ€œWe are deeply committed to creating safe, supportive learning environments where students thrive not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. Cleveland City Schools is excited to announce the appointment of Jay Garcia as the new Assistant Principal of Mayfield Elementary School. Mr. Garcia brings a great deal of experience and a passionate commitment to fostering and enriching the lives of students within our district.  An Educational Leadership graduate of Austin Peay State University, Mr. Garcia also holds a Masters degree from Concordia University and a Bachelorโ€™s degree from Lee University.   Mr. Garcia joins Mayfield Elementary School after serving as Music Specialist at Stuart Elementary School since 2016. Prior to that role he was the Music Director for Dwelling Place Church in Cleveland, as well as Morris Innovative High School in Dalton, Georgia. One of his largest educational accolades include being a member of the 2023-2024 BCPEF LEAD Fellowship.   Mr. Garcia shared, "Iโ€™m excited to be joining the Mayfield family and kicking off a great school year with our students and staff." Director of Schools, Dr. Jeff Elliott welcomed Mr. Garcia to his new role, saying, "We are thrilled to name Mr. Garcia as Assistant Principal of Mayfield Elementary School. I am confident he will provide an outstanding educational experience for our students. We look forward to seeing the energy and enthusiasm Mr. Garcia will bring to the Mayfield community."
