Cleveland City Schools is proud to share that Blythe-Bower Elementary teacher Laura Stilltrotter has been recognized by the Tennessee Department of Education as the 2025–26 Tennessee Novice Teacher of the Year for the Southeast CORE Region.
Laura was recently celebrated at the state’s Excellence in Education event in Nashville. She was one of only eight educators statewide to receive this prestigious recognition. The Novice Teacher of the Year award honors early-career teachers—those in their first three years—who demonstrate a passion for student learning, excellence in instruction, and a commitment to growth in the teaching profession.
“Laura embodies the spirit and dedication we strive for in Cleveland City Schools,” said Director of Schools Dr. Jeff Elliott. “In her short time here, she has made a powerful impact on her students and colleagues at Blythe-Bower. This honor is well-deserved.”
This is the second year in a row that a Cleveland City Schools educator has been named a regional Novice Teacher of the Year. It reflects the district’s ongoing focus on mentoring and supporting early-career teachers.
Dr. Joel Barnes, principal of Blythe-Bower Elementary, shared his excitement for Laura’s recognition, saying, “From day one, Laura has brought incredible energy, heart, and professionalism to our school. She builds meaningful relationships with her students and creates a classroom environment where every child feels valued. We are so proud to have her on our team.”
Laura’s approach to teaching is rooted in connection, creativity, and care. Her classroom is a place where students are challenged, supported, and seen. She represents the very best of what public education can offer.
We are thrilled to celebrate this moment with her and we look forward to all the ways she will continue to make a difference in the lives of her students.
