Mrs. Lacy Laman, a devoted teacher at Mayfield Elementary School, brings two decades of teaching experience and enthusiasm to her first-grade classroom. Born and raised in Cleveland, Mrs. Laman's journey in education has been one of dedication and love for teaching.
Starting her career in Athens, Mrs. Laman spent six years teaching first grade before taking an eight-year break to be a stay-at-home mom. Returning to education, she spent a decade at Tennessee Christian Preparatory School. Now in her fourth year at Mayfield Elementary, she officially joined the team in the 2019-2020 school year, ready to inspire a new generation of learners.
When asked about her love for first grade, Mrs. Laman’s eyes light up, saying, "I love that they love learning - they love school, they love me." She finds joy in their excitement for simple things like holidays and witnessing their milestones like the day they realize they can read.
With 20 years of teaching under her belt, Mrs. Laman appreciates the collaborative environment at Mayfield Elementary. She appreciates the support from fellow teachers and the welcoming school district that encourages growth and learning.
In 2022, Mrs. Laman received the Teacher of the Year award for Mayfield Elementary School, an honor she accepted while acknowledging the excellence of her colleagues. Regardless of the challenges, she remains thankful for every day spent in the classroom, emphasizing her enduring passion for education.
