Cleveland City Schools is proud to announce Dr. Keri Miles as the new principal of Mayfield Elementary School beginning with the upcoming school year. For Dr. Miles, this new role is especially meaningful. She is a proud Cleveland City Schools graduate who attended Mayfield Elementary, Cleveland Middle School, and Cleveland High School. Now, she will return to Mayfield to serve the school community that helped shape her own educational journey. Dr. Miles currently serves as the 6th Grade Assistant Principal at Cleveland Middle School, where she has spent the past four years supporting students, encouraging teachers, and building relationships with families. Those who have worked alongside her know her as a caring and steady leader who understands the importance of helping students feel supported, known, and encouraged. โ€œDr. Miles understands the heart of Cleveland City Schools because she has experienced it as both a student and an educator,โ€ said Dr. Jeff Elliott, Director of Cleveland City Schools. โ€œShe brings a strong background as a teacher, school counselor, and administrator, and she leads with compassion, experience, and a genuine commitment to students. We are excited to welcome her into this new role at Mayfield Elementary.โ€ Dr. Miles has spent 21 years in education, serving as a teacher, school counselor, and administrator. She is entering her 22nd year in education and joined Cleveland City Schools in 2022. In addition to her leadership experience, Dr. Miles is a National Certified Counselor, reflecting her commitment to supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally. โ€œI am honored and excited to join the Mayfield team as principal,โ€ said Dr. Miles. โ€œAs a former Mayfield student, itโ€™s especially meaningful to have the opportunity to serve the school that played such an important role in my own educational journey.โ€ Cleveland City Schools is excited to welcome Dr. Miles into this new leadership role and looks forward to the continued success of Mayfield Elementary School under her leadership.
Four Cleveland City Schools Named Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts National Showcase Schools Cleveland City Schools is proud to announce that four of its elementary schools - Arnold Memorial Elementary, George R. Stuart Elementary, Mayfield Elementary, and Candyโ€™s Creek Cherokee Elementary - have been named 2024-2025 Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts National Showcase Schools. The Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts National Showcase Schools award recognizes schools across the country that demonstrate exceptional commitment to building a positive school culture through relational and emotional safety. Schools are selected based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes measurable outcomes in academic performance, attendance, and discipline, as well as the schoolโ€™s implementation of the Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts framework. โ€œThis is an incredible honor that reflects the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff, students, and families,โ€ said Dr. Jeff Elliott, Director of Schools. โ€œWe are deeply committed to creating safe, supportive learning environments where students thrive not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. Cleveland City Schools is excited to announce the appointment of Jay Garcia as the new Assistant Principal of Mayfield Elementary School. Mr. Garcia brings a great deal of experience and a passionate commitment to fostering and enriching the lives of students within our district.  An Educational Leadership graduate of Austin Peay State University, Mr. Garcia also holds a Masters degree from Concordia University and a Bachelorโ€™s degree from Lee University.   Mr. Garcia joins Mayfield Elementary School after serving as Music Specialist at Stuart Elementary School since 2016. Prior to that role he was the Music Director for Dwelling Place Church in Cleveland, as well as Morris Innovative High School in Dalton, Georgia. One of his largest educational accolades include being a member of the 2023-2024 BCPEF LEAD Fellowship.   Mr. Garcia shared, "Iโ€™m excited to be joining the Mayfield family and kicking off a great school year with our students and staff." Director of Schools, Dr. Jeff Elliott welcomed Mr. Garcia to his new role, saying, "We are thrilled to name Mr. Garcia as Assistant Principal of Mayfield Elementary School. I am confident he will provide an outstanding educational experience for our students. We look forward to seeing the energy and enthusiasm Mr. Garcia will bring to the Mayfield community."
