ESL students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade read and learned about pollution and then discussed ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Afterwards, they used the design process to imagine, draw, and create designs using “trash.”

Lady Raiders Soccer

Over the past few weeks, our students have been researching crumple zones, engineering design, and the science behind egg drops. Each student designed and built their own egg drop container, and we tested them in class. After testing, each class voted on their favorite design, and the winning egg drop from each class advanced to a final competition.

To surprise the students, we invited the fire department to help with the final challenge. Using their truck's ladder, which extended over 100 feet in the air, firefighters dropped each of the five finalist egg drop designs. Amazingly, 4 out of the 5 survived the drop! The firefighters then selected their favorite overall design as the winner. The students absolutely loved the experience, and it was an exciting way to bring engineering and STEM concepts to life.

We have two exciting family events coming up this week! Our Walk & Roll to School event is Thursday, May 7, sponsored by City Fields. If you plan to participate, remind your child to pick up a permission form from the front office BEFORE Thursday (remember, there's no school on Tuesday). Bring the completed permission form to the park on Thursday morning. See the flyers for details.
