On Thursday, May 15, 2025, fourteen fourth graders from Blythe-Bower Elementary School and three fourth grade teachers, Mrs. Berger, Mrs. Tamayo, and Mr. Chamberlain set off on a big adventure to Jamestown and Williamsburg, Virginia. The goal of this trip? To make history come to life for the students of Blythe-Bower. Because fourth graders study the Revolutionary War and other events that led to the founding of our nation, these teachers thought it would be a magical experience for the students of Blythe-Bower to see history come to life, walking where those who began our nation walked. Before taking off to Jamestown and Williamsburg, these students were part of a history club that enabled them to have a variety of experiences that would prepare them to understand more about the American colonists' lives. In the history club, students also had a preview of the historical sites that they would see so they would have a reference for everything they would experience. Students culminated their club experience with a play about the colonies of Jamestown and Williamsburg. On Friday, May 16th, the group set off to a site at Jamestown where they saw replicas of the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery. They were able to go into the hull of the Susan Constant where they could imagine how difficult it would have been to take passage across the Atlantic to the Americas. Students saw replicas of the houses built at Jamestown, saw replicas of the Indian dwellings and more. After lunch, they proceeded to the actual Jamestown site where they saw archaeological digs taking place, heard the testimony of what life was like in Jamestown from a true Powhatan Indian, and visited the Jamestown museum where they saw actual relics (and skeletons) left behind by the settlers of Jamestown. It was an absolutely amazing day seeing history in real life. Saturday, May 17th, the group headed to Williamsburg, one of the places that was a hub of political activity during the Revolutionary War. Students saw reenactments of history, were able to participate as the jury in a colonial court of law, visited and were amazed by the Governor's Palace, saw horse and carriage, viewed the homes and businesses of Williamsburg, sat in the Bruton Parish Church where George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry had once set, and more. The group traveled home on Sunday, May 18th. Our hope is that this experience leaves a lasting impression on the students who saw all of these sites and that it encourages them to know more about their world and seek to experience more of their world in the future. Our deepest thanks to the donors and to Lynn Voelz and BCPEF for making this trip possible. It was truly an amazing experience for the students of Blythe-Bower.

For our annual Janice White Track Meet, we had a different day than expected. Blythe-Bower hosted Arnold and Stuart for a day full of fun and competition. The students competed in all of our track and field events and Blythe-Bower had the most points for boys and girls bringing home 1st Place. Our Blythe-Bower 5th grade students not only represented us well in competition but in sportsmanship and leadership. Great Job Bobcats!
