The concrete cracks canโ€™t slow us down, Weโ€™re math magicians all around. From dividends to numbers small, We solve them fast, we solve them all! So here's to learning in the sun, Where math and fun become as one. Mrs. Berger's classโ€”division prosโ€” We rock the sidewalk, watch us go!

3rd Grade Animal Habitat Diorama Project at Blythe-Bower Elementary Our 3rd-grade students at Blythe-Bower Elementary recently completed an exciting and educational project focusing on animal habitats. As part of their science curriculum, students were tasked with researching an animal and its natural habitat. After gathering information, they showcased their creativity by constructing dioramas that accurately represented the environment in which their chosen animals live. Students also wrote informative essays about their animals and their habitats, describing key aspects such as diet, adaptations, climate, and any environmental challenges their animal faces. The final step of the project involved presenting the dioramas in a school-wide exhibition, where students and staff voted on their favorite habitats. This project integrated multiple standards across various subject areas, aligning with several Tennessee 3rd grade standards, including: TDOE 3rd Grade Science Standards: 3.LS4.1: Analyze and interpret data from fossils to provide evidence of the organisms and the environments in which they lived long ago. (This standard supports understanding of how animals are adapted to their habitats, both in the present and in the past.) 3.LS4.3: Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all. (Students demonstrated understanding of how different animals adapt to their habitats.) 3.ESS3.1: Make a claim about the merit of a design solution that reduces the impacts of a weather-related hazard. (In discussions on habitat threats and animal survival, some students explored how weather impacts animal environments.) TDOE 3rd Grade ELA Standards: 3.RI.KID.1: Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. (During research, students asked questions about their animals and habitats and answered them using textual evidence.) 3.W.TTP.2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. (Students wrote essays about their animals and habitats, providing factual information.) 3.W.PDW.5: With guidance and support, develop and strengthen writing by planning, revising, and editing. (Students revised and edited their essays for clarity and accuracy.) TDOE 3rd Grade Social Studies Standards: 3.16: Use information gained from illustrations, maps, and photographs to explain how the environment influences people, and how people influence the environment. (In their studies, students examined how environments influence animal behavior and vice versa.) The diorama project not only deepened students' understanding of animal habitats but also allowed them to practice research, writing, and presentation skills. We are proud of the hard work and creativity demonstrated by our 3rd graders!
