Director’s Update

  • Cleveland City Schools has been named an Arts Partner School system by the Tennessee Arts Academy based on our commitment and belief in the significance of arts education in our schools.

  • Winter sports are in session for Cleveland Middle School and Cleveland High School! Make sure to stay updated throughout the season on our website, apps, and social media pages.

  • In addition to sports, winter concerts are underway at all the schools! You can check for dates to upcoming events on our website.

  • Breakfast with Santa will take place this Saturday at Cleveland High School! This is sponsored by CHS Cheerleaders! 

ATS the Bridge 

Advocates with ATS The Bridge shared a presentation about the dangers of substance abuse, opioids, and nicotine. You can learn more about the mission of ATS The Bridge by visiting their website

Second Reading of Policies

The Cleveland City Board of Education approved the following policies on a second (final) reading last night. These policies will be updated on our website in the next couple of days.

  • Policy 1.105 School Board Legislative Involvement

  • Policy 1.701 School District Planning

  • Policy 2.404 School Support Organizations 

  • Policy 4.603 Promotion and Retention

  • Policy 4.700 Testing Programs 

Requests for Additional Positions The Cleveland City Board of Education has granted approval for the following roles during the remainder of the 2023-2024 academic year, in response to a rise in student enrollment.

  • Teacher Assistant, Blythe-Bower Elementary

  • Teacher Assistant, Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary 

  • Part-Time Community Engagement Coordinator, Cleveland Middle School

  • Teacher, Arnold Memorial Elementary (if needed)

Site Committee Update 

A contract has been granted for the renovations of the new administrative office building at a cost of $1.4 million. The project is set to start in January 2024 with an anticipated completion date of July 2024. Additionally, the Cleveland City Board of Education voted to allocate $2.9 million to expand Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School by adding 6 extra classrooms. The expected timeline for this expansion is set to take place from June 2024 to January 2025. We plan to release additional information to our families and the community this afternoon.

School board members approved the final draft of the 2025-2026 school calendar

State Report Card and School Letter Grades 

Michael Kahrs, Director of Student Information, shared a presentation regarding the scores schools will receive on December 21. 

Strategic Plan Focus

Dr. Cody Raper, Director of Innovation, shared a presentation on updates from his Strategic Plan.
