Cleveland City Schools proudly hosted the ribbon cutting for Barbara’s Market, celebrating the legacy of Barbara Ector, a beloved educator at Cleveland High School who dedicated her life to helping children and families in need. Barbara’s Market will provide essential resources - food, clothing, household/hygiene items, and school supplies - to support families in the Cleveland community and ensure every student has the tools they need to thrive.
The program featured remarks from Dr. Jeff Elliott, Director of Schools, who welcomed guests and reflected on the school system’s mission to eliminate barriers to learning. Tim Henderson, President and CEO of Cleveland Utilities, recognized community partners whose contributions helped bring Barbara’s Market to life. A heartfelt dedication and legacy tribute was delivered by Aubrey Ector, husband of the late Barbara Ector, honoring her unwavering compassion and commitment to service. Cleveland City Schools Board Chairman Nate Tucker shared reflections on the board’s commitment to meeting the needs of all students.
Following the ribbon cutting, guests toured the facility and enjoyed light refreshments. Barbara’s Market is located at 350 Central Avenue and will serve families across the school district by providing vital resources at no cost.
“Barbara Ector was not only a dedicated educator at Cleveland High School but also a champion for children and families in our community,” said Dr. Elliott. “Through Barbara’s Market, we honor her legacy by continuing her work to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.”
Barbara’s Market will accept donations every Tuesday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at its location. Priority donations include new or gently used clothing (sizes newborn to 14) and hygiene products. An Amazon Wishlist has also been created for those wishing to donate online and have items shipped directly to the Family Resource Center.
