CHS mascot

Raider Nation will meet its newest member tonight as Rowdy Raider, Cleveland High School’s newly designed mascot, makes his first official appearance.

Rowdy Raider is more than a costume. He is the vision of Nate Carter, a 2025 Cleveland High School graduate whose leadership and creativity turned an idea into a tradition. As part of his Leadworthy 3 “Legacy Project,” Nate set out to design a mascot that would embody the spirit and pride of Cleveland High School for years to come.

At the time, CHS did not have a functioning mascot. Nate, a CHS football player and student section leader, saw the opportunity to create something special, something the whole Raider community could rally behind. His plan included tryouts for student performers, a $500 scholarship each year, and a graduation reveal to honor the mascot’s role.

Nate pitched the idea to potential donors, and one generous supporter was so impressed that they funded the project in full. From that vision, Rowdy Raider was born.

“Tonight is about more than just the debut of a mascot,” said Leadworthy teacher Jenna Morris. “It is about celebrating a student who used his passion to create a lasting legacy for Cleveland High School. Rowdy Raider is a tradition that will grow with our school for years to come.”

Now a freshman at Samford University, Nate was celebrated by CHS leaders through a special FaceTime call as Rowdy was introduced to the school community. His project stands as a shining example of the legacy students can leave behind.

“Rowdy Raider represents the fierce pride of Raider Nation,” said Director of Schools Dr. Jeff Elliott. “Nate Carter’s vision exemplifies the creative and collaborative skills desired for all of our students.”

Rowdy Raider will make his first appearance tonight, bringing new energy and excitement to the Raider sidelines, a legacy born from one student’s dream and leadership.
