District announces new principals.

Cleveland City Schools is proud to announce new leadership at three elementary schools for the 2026-2027 school year, naming Mr. Donald Benton as principal of Ross Elementary School, Dr. Alicia Kahrs as principal of Arnold Memorial Elementary School, and Dr. Joe Parker as principal of Blythe-Bower Elementary School.

These leaders bring a shared commitment to student success, strong relationships, and building positive school communities.

Mr. Donald Benton currently serves as assistant principal at Cleveland High School and has been a valued part of Cleveland City Schools since 2021. During his time at Cleveland High School, he has served in several leadership roles, including Operations Coordinator and BLADE Facilitator. Prior to joining Cleveland City Schools, he served as Band Director at Walker Valley High School, leading a program of more than 200 students.

β€œI am so excited to serve the Ross Elementary community in my new role as principal,” said Mr. Benton. β€œRoss Elementary is a special place filled with incredible students, caring educators, and supportive families. I am truly grateful to be part of such a dedicated team. Together, we will continue to build a strong foundation for success, inspire a love of learning, and create a safe, welcoming environment where every child can grow and shine.”

Dr. Alicia Kahrs currently serves as assistant principal at Arnold Memorial Elementary and has been a valued part of the school community. She previously served as assistant principal at both Arnold and Stuart Elementary Schools and began her Cleveland City Schools journey at Cleveland High School as a science teacher. She later served as a K–5 Instructional Coach at Stuart Elementary and as the District Well-Being Specialist for Cleveland City Schools, as well as a Special Education Consultant for the Tennessee Department of Education.

β€œI am deeply honored to serve as the next principal of Arnold Memorial Elementary School,” said Dr. Kahrs. β€œWith a rich history and a strong connection to our community, Arnold is a truly special place. I look forward to serving our students, families, and staff while continuing to build on the tradition of excellence that defines what it means to be a Mustang.”

Dr. Joe Parker currently serves as assistant principal at Blythe-Bower Elementary and has been a valued member of Cleveland City Schools since 2024. He has served as a Math Teacher Leader, Beta Club sponsor, and summer school site director, and has been actively involved in district initiatives. Dr. Parker has been recognized as Teacher of the Year and as a recipient of the Above and Beyond Medallion and holds a doctorate from Lee University.

β€œStepping into the role of principal at Blythe-Bower Elementary School is an incredible honor,” said Dr. Parker. β€œMy goal has always been to foster a school environment that is safe, thriving, and deeply supportive of our students, their families, and our professional educators. I believe that our students and teachers are our greatest hope for a better world. I remain dedicated to investing in the daily actions and conversations that help them build something bigger for themselves and the entire Cleveland community.”

Dr. Jeff Elliott, Director of Schools, shared, β€œThese are strong, student-centered leaders who care deeply about students and understand the power of relationships in our schools. Each of them has a proven commitment to supporting students, empowering teachers, and building positive school communities. We are excited about the future of Ross, Arnold, and Blythe-Bower under their leadership.”
