End-of-Year Message from Dr. Dyer

Dear staff, families, and the Cleveland community,

As we approach the end of the 2022-2023 school year, I am filled with gratitude and pride for the incredible accomplishments we have achieved together. It is an honor to serve as the Director of Schools for Cleveland City Schools, and I want to extend my deepest appreciation to each and every one of you for your unwavering dedication and commitment to our student's success.

This year has been marked by significant milestones and achievements that have solidified our tradition of excellence. I am thrilled to share some of these highlights with you, as they are a testament to the exceptional work happening within our district.

In April, the Cleveland City Board of Education approved the 2023-2024 budget which included pay raises for all full-time employees and an increase in the starting teacher's salary to a minimum of $50,000 per year. This action, taken four years ahead of Governor Bill Lee's proposal, demonstrates our unwavering support for our educators and their invaluable contributions to our student's lives.

I would also like to congratulate our District-Level Teachers of the Year, Principal of the Year, and Supervisor of the Year for the 2022-2023 School Year. These exceptional individuals exemplify the passion and dedication that make Cleveland City Schools a beacon of excellence.

In the realm of academics, our students have continued to shine brightly. Cleveland High School graduates earned over $8 million in scholarships, a testament to their hard work and the dedication of our educators. Moreover, this year's graduating class set a new record with the most Graduates of Distinction, with a remarkable 33 students achieving this prestigious honor.

The accomplishments of our schools have not gone unnoticed by the Tennessee Department of Education. Candy's Creek Cherokee Elementary and Cleveland High Schools were named "Reward" schools, recognizing their commitment to academic excellence. Additionally, Cleveland High, Cleveland Middle, Stuart, Arnold Memorial, Blythe-Bower, and Mayfield Elementary Schools have been named Capturing Kids Hearts National Showcase Schools, showcasing their exceptional efforts in fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the collective effort of our dedicated educators, supportive families, and the incredible communities we serve. I want to extend my sincerest appreciation to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and tireless commitment to our student’s success.

As we look towards the future, let us continue to build upon our accomplishments, striving for even greater heights of excellence. Together, we can create a nurturing and empowering learning environment that prepares our students to become successful, compassionate, and engaged citizens of the world.

I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating summer break, filled with joy, laughter, and cherished moments with loved ones. Thank you for your outstanding work, and I look forward to our continued journey of success in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Russell Dyer
